ROAD TRAFFIC SAFETY OFFICER

The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Road Traffic Safety Officer.

A Road Traffic Safety Officer develops, designs and implements road safety plans to promote safe road usage by the public.

A qualified learner will be able to:

  • Design, develop and implement road safety programmes.
  • Conduct road infrastructure design and layout on road safety assessments.
  • Analyse traffic reports and generate an abstract.
  • Research, analyse and assess relevant road safety data.
  • PROGRAMME RATIONALE

    Broad consultation with Institutions of Higher Learning, Provincial Departments of Transport, Metros, and other transport agencies was conducted by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) in collaboration with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) prior to and during the development of this qualification. As a result of these engagements, the Road Safety Officers' qualification was proposed. The completion of this qualification will equip those entering the road safety environment with the skills to competently function as Road Safety Officers.

    The rationale for the implementation of this qualification is to standardise the management and promotion of road safety that will benefit society by providing community support to enhance road safety initiatives.

    The learners who successfully complete this qualification will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to progress to higher levels within the road safety discipline. 

  • COURSE INFORMATION : ADULT LITERACY TEACHER

    Programme Purpose:

    The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as an Adult Literacy Teacher.An Adult Literacy Teacher plans, organises and implements a well-structured programme or a series of learning events; facilitates a learning programme;  designs, produces and/or adapts learning materials and additional learning resources (LTSM); produces, implements and evaluates assessment instruments, and profiles learners. The ALT performs all these activities for adult learners at Level 1. The Adult Literacy Teacher may work as an assistant to the Adult Education  Teacher. A qualified learner will be able to:Profile adult learners. Plan,  structure, implement and evaluate a learning programme for adult learners.Plan, implement and evaluate assessment for adult learners.

    Minimum Admission Requirements : An NQF Level 4 Qualification with Communication.

    Duration :  18 months full-time / 24 months part-time

    This qualification has been internationally benchmarked by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) against international countries such as Canada, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Botswana.
