Informal Small Business Practice & its Impact on Course Offerings of Private Colleges in SA

This video focuses on course outcomes and the business strategies of private colleges in South Africa. the COVID-19 pandemic has had a tremendous impact on all private colleges, including most businesses irrespective of sector. Pre-COVID, the private college industry was characterized by high pricing (in today's terms); the teacher and student had to be in the same place for teaching and learning to occur, face-to-face learning dominated the education spectrum, large premises, extensive staffing, most courses were designed around the academic model, with little and no focus on entrepreneurship and small business management. COVID-19 has changed that quite drastically. With ongoing lockdowns and the ever-increasing rate of unemployment, more and more people are now sitting at home, either retrenched, made redundant, or lost their job through company closures etc. These people are skilled in their respective disciplines but are locked in their views from an employee perspective. Whilst they may be skilled in their disciplines, they have no idea on how to transform their thinking by taking the skills they have and taking it to the market and making a living out of it. This is not a choice anymore since the corporate sector is shedding more jobs than it currently employs. The National Certificate in Informal Small Business Practice is one example of an entrepreneurial programme that would have mutual value to both employees looking to start their own businesses and also private colleges in that their product offerings are now more meaningful to the society at large. In fact, it is safe to assume that every course irrespective of the field of study, must have an entrepreneurial component to have relevance and meaning in the new normal. I Was I Is I Am is a management consulting organization focused on private education in South Africa with over 30 years of professional and senior management experience. The Matric results will be released on 22 February 2021, that is assuming that no further delays are experienced due to the impacts of COVID-19. This essentially means that the academic year has now been adjusted which impacts directly on private colleges. Therefore all processes, systems and operations need to be re-drafted - in essence, this means that we go back to the drawing boards and start from scratch. However, the time span between now and the new registration season is not that far away, and immediate action needs to be taken by owners of private colleges if they want to survive beyond the 2021 academic year. I Was I Is I Am offers its services in conducting a full assessment Pre-COVID and creates scenarios around within COVID and future COVID with appropriate plans and premeditated actions to ensure that the private colleges survive and are financially viable within this global pandemic. Are you a college owner? Please feel free to leave your comments so that we may engage mutually since collaboration amongst providers now becomes absolutely necessary seeing that we are all in a new territory, that has never been travelled before. Our associate YouTube channels are: Private Education in South Africa; the Global Examinations Board; and the Global Education Universe- subscribe to our channels and become a part of our education community in tackling the challenges of COVID-19 by way of a mutually beneficial relationship.

Implementing Distance Education in Private Colleges in South Africa During COVID-19

This video highlights the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in private colleges in South Africa and also the global businesses at large. Private colleges have had to change their systems, processes and operations especially during the forced lockdown periods where they observed the travel and social distancing restrictions, yet had to still remain financially viable. Various dilemmas face the South African Private Colleges in that they are forced to choose between investing in their businesses or hold on to their money - a hard choice since non-investment and re-engineering of private colleges if not done now, will have disastrous consequences at a later stage. Many providers are waiting for January 2021, to determine what course or path of action to take regarding their colleges. Unfortunately, this will be too late, since there will be a surge in new applications for accreditations and competitors who have been proactive during the 2020 academic year, will have the strategic advantage over colleges that have failed to respond to the negative impacts of COVID-19. This video provides a step-by-step approach for private colleges to implement distance education within their colleges. Providers who feel that they cannot do this on their own can engage our professional services at a cost of R 25,000 for a detailed 3-year strategic plan with various scenario plannings and possible courses of action to be taken should a specific instance arise. At the time of writing, COVID-19 is still the forerunner in the decision-making and strategic direction of private colleges and needs to be closely monitored on an ongoing basis. This is a must-read for all private colleges in South Africa.
